Our Top Ten Favorite Retro Candies
Did your favorite make the list?
There's just something about candy...
It makes us nostalgic. It reminds us of the "Good Ol' Days." It makes us HAPPY, just like it did when we were kids. No matter what's going on in the world – candy continues to make life sweet. And that's pretty awesome!
Do you have a favorite candy from your childhood?
Honestly, there are so many great retro candies out there, it's hard to choose. But we decided to make a list of our top ten favorite nostalgic treats – ranked from good to great to the all-time best.
Want to see if you agree with our ranking? (We'd love to know what you think!)
Without further ado, here are our Top 10 Favorite Retro Candies.
10. Strawberry Bon Bons (Grandma Candy!)
Remember those candies that your Mom or Grandma seemed to pull out of nowhere? It was like magic...and these tasty strawberry hard candies will forever have a place in our hearts. (Did you know that no one really knows when these were invented?)
Check out our blog about Strawberry Bon Bons!
9. Root Beer Barrels
These are one of our favorite penny candies. Did you choose these when you filled a bag at the candy store as a kid?
They were invented in the 1900s, by a pharmacist – the same guy who invented actual root beer (the drink!) His invention did so well that he started making it into hard candy. The more you know!
8. Turkish Taffy
Give it a Smack, Bonomo! Give it a Crack, Bonomo!
The jingle for this classic candy will forever be in our minds (and hearts).
Since 1912, it's been one of the only candies that starts out hard and becomes soft and chewy once you eat it. Pretty cool, right?

7. Pixy Stix
I mean...these are just fun!
They've been around since the 1940s. They actually started out as a drink mix, but they were later marketed as candy because so many people just ate the powder plain. We're glad they figured that out...
6. Tootsie Rolls
Who doesn't love Tootsie Rolls? These have been around forever –– like over 100 years forever! They were one of the first penny candies, so they'll always have a special place in our hearts,
5. Bit-O-Honey
This an all-time favorite. It remains super unique – how often do you see honey and almond flavored taffy nowadays? It's been around since 1928!
4. Candy Buttons
3. Swedish Fish
"A Friend You Can Eat..."
These were introduced in 1979, so they're a little less retro – but many of us still have memories of these from our childhood. Nothing compares to the unique texture and perfectly fruity flavor.

2. Sky Bar
Some say it's the Greatest Candy Bar Ever Made!
And, honestly, they might be right. Sky Bars have four fillings in one: fudge, vanilla, caramel and peanut. We love that each bite is different. They've been around since 1938 – and we still enjoy them today thanks to a loyal fan who saved them from being discontinued.

1. Nik-L-Nip (Wax Bottles)
We have to give the first place spot to wax bottles!
These were always the most exciting part about a trip to the candy store. It was the whole experience: biting off the waxy top, drinking the delicious liquid inside, and then trying to get out every last drop. When we think of nostalgic candy...these are what come to mind.
No one knows exactly when they were invented – but it was likely in the 1920s or 30s. We're glad they've stuck around!
