A Beloved Candy Company is Closing its Doors. Is the Candy Gone for Good?
Remember the iconic Abba Zaba bar? We have some bad news...
Anabelle Candy Company, the company behind the candy (and many others!) closed its doors in September.
That means the future of some of our favorite retro candy bars is uncertain. And we would be so sad to see them go!
Which Candy Bars Did They Make?
Okay, I know what you're thinking...
Which candies could we be losing?
Annabelle Candy Company made several of our favorite retro candy bars. Some of their most iconic treats include:
-
Rocky Road: A chocolate bar with marshmallows, roasted cashews, and creamy chocolate.
-
Abba-Zaba: A taffy candy bar with a peanut butter center.
-
Big Hunk: A chewy, honey-sweetened nougat bar filled with whole roasted peanuts.
-
Look!: A rich dark chocolate-covered bar with a nougat and peanut-filled center.
-
U-No: A smooth, truffle-like center covered in milk chocolate.
A History of Annabelle Candy Company
The company was founded in 1950 by Russian immigrant Sam Altshuler. He named it after his daughter, Annabelle.
Altshuler's passion for confectionery led to the creation of the original Rocky Road candy bar, which quickly became a West Coast favorite.
Over the years, Annabelle Candy Company expanded its product line. In 1972, the company purchased the Golden Nugget Candy Company, adding Big Hunk and Look! bars to its offerings. Later, in 1978, they brought U-No and Abba-Zaba bars into the fold.
Is the Candy Gone for Good?
Okay...here's the good news!
Despite the closure of the company, all is not lost.
Promise Confections, the parent company, has said that production of the beloved candy bars may continue at other facilities. This means that treats like Rocky Road, Abba-Zaba, and Big Hunk, would remain available.
yes it is very sad when stores close
